Our Story

For years John and Karen vanderZalm knew they wanted to start their own Garden Centre. They knew there needed to be a place for gardeners to experience beauty, quality and great customer service in the Scugog area.

John and Karen have worked in the greenhouse their whole lives, with a combined experience of 60 years in the greenhouse industry. They moved to Port Perry in July 2007 knowing they were going to start their new family run business, a Garden Centre that could give people the best gardening experience possible.

Both John and Karen knew that this would be a huge risk. Starting fresh and investing everything they had to start this business at 40 years of age. This was their new adventure.

Fall of 2007, garden mums and decorative items were for sale by the road side before the greenhouses were even built. By Winter 2007, greenhouses were going up with the help of family and friends. Starting with 3 Greenhouses, 4 years later we constructed another and by 2018 Century Greenhouses has a total of 6 greenhouses (32,500 sqft) to serve you.

Century Greenhouse is family running business with 5 family members working full time. Open from Spring to Winter and specializing in hanging baskets and planters. We are growing the best quality and variety of annuals, perennials, shrubs, vegetables, herbs, succulents, hanging baskets and planters.
